Restart Game
Solved
2013-03-29 6:47 pm
When playing the ABC game, the user must exit the game and then click on GO > ABC Game to restart the game after game over. The ability to restart the game without having to exit would be excellent for those that enjoy the game.

Thank you very much for your suggestion of improvement. You are right, restarting the game by closing the game and then use the menu is not the best solution. Our next software version will have a complete new typing game with levels for each training lesson (like in our online version).

Would much like to have some kind of calendar report/bar diagram (time spent, mean CPM/WPM, errors rate etc. for each day) — like the one on keybr.com =)

P.S. Debian-based would be a more correct way to specify Linux distro =/

Tipp 10 for iPad
Solved
2012-12-17 4:55 pm
Are you working on an iPad edition of Tipp 10?

It's by far the best typing tutor available for Mac and Windows.

The typing programs at Apple's App Store are rubbish, and only cater for the onscreen touch keyboard – Tipp would be a great addition: well worth paying for.
2012-12-17 4:55 pm
Thank you very much for your message. At the moment, we don't plan a TIPP10 app for iOS. BUT our online version of TIPP10 also works for iPad. It's available in German language since July 2012 and we will publish the English version very soon. It's already fully translated but there are a lot of small corrections we are still waiting for.

But if you like you can already register for free here:

https://www.tipp10.com/en/online/

With iPad it's necessary to push an extra button before you can start the training. It's to select the input field and, if there is no external keyboard, to show the touchpad keyboard. You will notice the button in the left bottom corner of the training window. Also, on iPad TIPP10 Online is working best with an external keyboard. With touchpad keyboard you have to zoom a little bit at the beginning to see the whole training window.
2012-12-17 4:55 pm
Thank you so much for this. I've just tried the program online, and it's just as good as the download version.

I've been using Tipp 10 for over about 18 months, and my typing has really improved. I practice a little most days.

The ability to create your own lessons is fantastic: I've imported a list of pangrams, which really gives the typing a workout.

I've just purchased an iPad with wireless keyboard. The keyboard needs a little getting used to, so the online version of Tipp 10 will be great here.

Think I ought to make a little donation.

Thanks

Option to Only see Typing Text  in progress
Solved
2012-09-25 12:30 am
Would it be possible to have the option of only seeing the typing text? I know nearly everything can be turned off - except the Errors, CPM, Time and Chars.

I have ADD and seeing them is wildly distracting. I have noticed after many tests that if I place the window at the bottom of the screen (hiding the above stated data) I consistently score 20 points higher.

Thank you so much for making such an awesome program.
2012-09-25 12:30 am
Thank you very much for your interesting question and sorry for the delay.

In earlier versions we turned the status bar completely off but then users complained they want to see the values but not the finger description.
I think you are right and we have to offer two options - one to display the description and one to disable the entire status bar. We are working on the next software version and we will probably consider this topic.

word count please, not character count  solved and in progress
Solved
2012-09-07 7:27 pm
please incorporate word count instead of the useless character count. the industry metric for typing is 'word count' not characters.

the implementation for this is pretty trivial - record the typing time between spaces and average it.
2012-09-07 7:27 pm
We will implement this feature in our next software version. The online version (which is available in German and will be available in English in 1 or 2 weeks) already has this feature (you can select between W(ords)pm, C(characters)pm, S(trokes)pm).

Document that on 64-bit Ubuntu one needs to install ia32-libs package  in progress
Solved
2012-08-26 6:49 pm
Possibly on other Linux distros too, I had to install ia32-libs package on my 64 bit Ubuntu 12.04 to get the installation to work.

Either provide a separate download for 64-bit linux, or at least document it on the downloads age that one needs this package for tipp10 to work on 64 bit linux.

This suggestion applies to both, the .deb package and to the binary download too.

My first impressions of the software: "impressive". Keep up the good work.

singh.gurjeet@gmail.com

PS: I wish to publish my name and email address, as opposed to hide it as suggested in the boxes below.

PPS: Waiting anxiously for the online version.
2012-08-26 6:49 pm
Thank you for your message and the notice regarding to the Linux distros. We will include your information in the manual within the next software version.

As you requested I added your email address to your bug report (you wrote your name already at the end).

If you are interested in the online version, you can already access it. To register simply go to the German website (www.tipp10.com/de/), then choose "Onlineversion". After that you can switch again to the English version (select "English" in the top right corner). Then you can register.
But you have to know that we are still translating the content - so especially in the results, a lot of phrases are not translated yet.

How to press the Alt Gr key
In progress
2012-08-18 12:34 pm
I noticed that the software teaches to press the Alt Gr key with the right ring finger. I noticed that it is not really comfortable doing it that way. I find that it is more logic to use the right thumb, which is actually closer to the key and which is usually free (because you also have the other thumb to press the space bar). I don't know if you can change it, because maybe the 10 finger system is copyrighted (sorry for my bad english), but I just wanted to know what you think about it.
2013-04-08 2:52 pm
Thank you very much for your message. And sorry for the delay.
I think you are right, using the thumb for some keys would be better and faster. The problem is, I think there is no general "copyright", but the software is used by a lot of schools. And I think everywhere you can read that the thumb is only used for the space bar. So we could change it, but I think we would then get a lot of feedback from schools.

So feel free to use your own "system" - we can also recommend alternative keyboard layouts like NEO or Dvorak (also supported by TIPP10), where all keys are completely reordered to give you the possibility to write very fast and comfortable. If you are interested, you will find a lot of information about it on Wikipedia:

Default display font  in progress
Solved
2012-03-29 11:49 am
First of all, I absolutely love the program. The one tiny change I would make would be to change the default font in the dictation window from a sans-serif to a serif one because the current one can cause a few 'unforced errors'. An example is in lesson 6, which deals with capitalization, where it is impossible to tell whether it reads 'Al' (as in a diminutive from Albert) or 'AI' (as in Artificial Intelligence).

I know the problem can be easily solved via the preferences window, but it may still be worth correcting.

Thanks again for a great tool!
2012-03-29 11:49 am
Thank you for your post! You are right, the font can confuse in some cases. In the character list of the results we already saw this problem and changed the font, but until now I didn't noticed we have the same problem in the ticker of the training window of course.
At the moment we completely renew the software caused by our new online version (which is in beta status now), because we want improve a lot of things and also both versions (software and online) should have the same features, databases, manual and so on. So I will think about changing the font in the new versions. The only thing which bothers me is that changing the font will not look very nice... but that's not really a reason to discard your proposal :)

2011-07-26 12:48 am
Thank you for your message and question.

Does it really make sense to add an option like that? I see no reason why people should finish a sentence with the space bar. If there are reasons, please let me know.

TIPP10 should remain simple and clean. So I want to add only options that are useful for a big group of people.

Use some kind of prefix  comment
Solved
2011-07-25 1:19 am
You are extensively using QCoreApplication::applicationDirPath(), which requires source code modifications for platforms, where binaries and data files are put on different places. A better way is to use some kind of prefix.

A quick and dirty fix I used is:

for i in `grep -R 'QCoreApplication::applicationDirPath()' * | awk '{print $1}' | sed -e 's/:$//'`; do sed -i '' -e 's/QCoreApplication::applicationDirPath()/QString(DATADIR)/g' $i ; done

with setting the DATADIR environment variable to something like /usr/local/share/tipp10. Here is a patch for tipp10.pro

--- tipp10.pro 2011-03-12 20:22:32.000000000 +0100
+++ tipp10.pro 2011-07-24 14:24:03.000000000 +0200
@@ -88,3 +88,5 @@
sql/startsql.cpp \
games/abcrainwidget.cpp \
games/charball.cpp
+
+DEFINES += "DATADIR=\"\\\"$$(DATADIR)\\\"\""

As I have said, this is a quick and dirty way that allows "proper" installing the program data in a different directory, where the binary will look for it.
2011-07-25 1:19 am
I use QCoreApplication::applicationDirPath() to read and copy the database template to the users home directory at the first start of TIPP10. And I call it whenever I need the user settings (registry) in the portable Windows version. To manage the user data I don't use applicationDirPath(), because then I use the access to the user directory.

What exactly do you mean with "data file"? OS like Windows, OS X or Ubuntu separate program data and user data. TIPP10 does this, too. Which OS do you have? FreeBSD? Why is there a need to separate files that are in the program directory?

If there is a need, you are right, a define variable with the path to the program directory would be nice for systems who separate binary and data file from the program directory. On the other hand, the program directory can change in one OS, for example it is different between Windows 98 and Windows 7. If I would use a "prefix" I had to compile different versions of TIPP10 for different versions of one OS!

Dvorak Lessons  comment
Solved
2011-06-25 12:49 am
I noticed that Dvorak is a keyboard layout option, but sadly there are no lessons for it. Would it possible for dvorak lessons to be added?
2011-06-25 12:49 am
Lessons are hard to create, because you have to create a lesson structure and then you have to find words and sentences which consists of only specific characters. It's a lot of work.

We plan to develop a platform where users can help to create keyboard layouts, lessons and to translate the software. I hope this way we can offer some lessons for the Dvorak layout some day. In the meanwhile you can use the lessons for the QWERTY layout. You then you may have to put aside some keys from the beginning. So it's possible to use the Dvorak layout but at the beginning it's more difficult than with specific lessons.

Display and unable-to-type problem (Burmese language)  comment
Solved
2011-03-30 12:59 am
Hi,
I configured Burmese font fully and truly compliant to Unicode encoding ver 5.2.2 (present is ver 6.0.0) and Writing system as Myanmar in the settings.
It appears characters correctly in Sample box but not appear nor unable to type.
I created a lesson and pasted the sentences copied from Notepad as I can't directly write in it. Still doesn't work.

Is it a bug or need improvement ? I don't know what to say.

Thank you.
2011-03-30 12:59 am
At the moment we only support German and English keyboard layouts. Training with these layouts limits the characters to those which are supported from the keyboard layout (General Setting - Language - Advanced). I think that's why you can't write your lessons. Without the right virtual keyboard layout in TIPP10 it makes not really sense to type different languages.

At the moment we renew our developer zone to offer more possibilities for translating and organize TIPP10.

I hope we can finish the relaunch in the next weeks. If you like you can help us then translating and improving TIPP10.

WPM instead of CPM  in progress

Please give the option of seeing the typing results using wpm (words per minute) instead of cpm (characters per minute). Where I live, we don't gauge the typing speed by crm.
2011-03-28 8:12 am
Yes, we will think about adding a WPM column in the next version.

We also discussed about this topic here:
http://www.freewaregenius.com/2011/03/16/tipp10-become-an-expert-touch-typist-with-this-free-typing-tutor-app/

Some questions:
- Where do you live?
- How do you calculate WPM, because words have different length?
- What's about spaces in this calculation?
- When you divide the CPM by 5 I think you have a more detailed result than real WPM. Isn't that true?

Hello
I've downloaded your software but I couldn´t get it in English.
Is there any link to get it in English?

Thanks

Enrique
2011-03-28 6:11 am
You can change the language in the General settings:
"Datei" -> "Grundeinstellungen" -> "Sprache"

After saving you have to restart TIPP10.

TIPP10 should automatically choose English language when it detects an English operating system. Which language is your OS?

I think I have to change TIPP10 - it should always select English and only when German is detected choose German.
2011-03-28 6:11 am
I could do it now. Thanks a lot.
I have SPANISH keyboard.
It means besides the “ L” I have the “Ñ” instead of “;” ( picture in the attachment)
Is there any way I can filter and replace the “;” by the” Ñ” in order the software to work? ( I have tried filter it and I didn´t find a way to make it work)
2011-03-28 6:11 am
Try the following:

"General Settings" -> "Language" -> "Advanced":
1. Append in the line "Limitation of Characters" after "0-9" this:
Ñ
2. Append in the line "Replacement Filter" this:
,;=Ñ

Would be happy if you could tell me if it works.
2011-03-28 6:11 am
It is working PERFECT ¡ J
Just for your information I put “ñ “ instead of “Ñ”

I will see later when I will arrive to the next lessons how it works with other features.

Any news, I will keep you posted.
