English training lessons are too difficult/wrongly chosen
In progress
2013-03-31 2:51 pm
When choosing the English training lessons with QWERTY Layout, the words that you have to type are not chosen correctly. For example in the beginner lessons, for example Lesson 1 (just the home row keys), you have to type all kinds of characters in lower and upper case. It also uses German words/sentences.

Tipp10 version: 2.1.0
2013-04-08 2:42 pm
Thank you for your message. We hear about that problem the first time. Perhaps it's an Archlinux problem? But even than, we can not explain how this can happen.
Can you please try to use the German QWERTZ layout and then check if training lesson 1 only exists of the home row characters? Another try would be to rename the database file tipp10v2.db in order to create a new database by starting TIPP10.

We hope we can find the problem, perhaps we have to install Archlinux at our test environments, too. To solve the problem quick for you, you can use our free online version at http://online.tipp10.com.

Apostrophe glitch in Firefox after pause  solved?
In progress
2013-01-23 4:57 pm
After lesson pause pressing the apostrope key in Firefox opens the Forefox's quick search panel and focuses in it's text field, which requires pressing Esc (or making one mouse click) to close it and continue typing.

Win XP, Canadian Multilingual Standard layout, online Tipp10.
2013-01-23 4:57 pm
Thank you for your request.

Unfortunately we can not trace your error.
Please update Firefox to current version 18.0.1 and try again.
Your keyboard layout is not supportet but I think that's not the
problem. Maybe it's caused by firefox. Please try TIPP10 online in an
other browser, e.g. Chrome and report if the problem is solved or not.

incompatible cpu-subtype  solved?

I am running Mac OS X 10.4.11 on iBook G3 466MHz. It is fine enough for kids to play with. One of the important skills I wanted them to learn is touch typing. Your software looks perfect for this, but it is not running on this G3 processor. I assume that in the compiler tool it is just a question of including G3 processor to make that software available on that nice little iBook G3.

Can you help, please?
2012-10-29 2:45 pm
It could be true that the current Mac OS version is not running with an Power PC. Unfortunately we are not getting much response for this type of processor. I thought we compiled version 2.1.0 for PPC too, but we already get one response which said it doesn't work.

So could you please try the older version of TIPP10 which never made problems with PPC? You can download it here:
http://www.tipp10.com/de/download/tipp10_mac_v2-0-3.zip

Another possibility is, if your kids iBook is connected to the internet, to use our new online version of TIPP10. It's not fully translated yet (but most is) and we will publish it in the next weeks. But if you like you can already use it. You can register for free here:

Small fix in words set  in progress
Solved
2012-10-28 1:33 am
Hello,
I'm using 2.1.0 version of TIPP10 with database version 33. In the lesson 6 there are two words that are very hard (impossible?) to distinguish - AI (capital 'i') and Al (small 'L'). Could you remove one of them in the upcoming version?
2012-10-28 1:33 am
Thank you very much for your message. We are not getting much response for the English version, the German version is much more popular (don't no why it's so hard to spread it in the US).

That's why your bug note is very important for us. We will remove the bug in the next software version and also in the new online version, which is available in 1 or 2 weeks (you can already register by switching to the German version of our website).

In meanwhile you can change the font type in the program's settings (e.g. to Courier New) that you can see the difference between "I" and "l".

Wrong labels when graph order is changed  in progress
Solved
2012-08-18 12:21 pm
On the "Progress of lessons" tab in the result page, when I change the "Order by x-axis" or the "Show" properties, the labels that appear when you hover a dot in the graph are still in the original order. For example: If I choose to show only the open lessons, the first label tells me "Lektion 1 (asdf jklö)". The position of the dot is correct, just its label isn't.
2012-08-18 12:21 pm
Thank you very much for your message. You are right, here we have an error. We will solve this in our next software version.

Unlimited lines of text & more title characters.
In progress
2012-05-17 3:41 am
Hello, would it be possible to allow for unlimited lines of text in my own lessons and also allow more characters for a title (maybe 40 or something)?

Thank you very much.
2013-04-08 3:02 pm
Thank our for your message and sorry for the delay. In the current version this is not possible. Perhaps we will increase the limitation within the next version, but "unlimited" length we will never allow. Because this is an security risk.

Results\Fingers incorrect  in progress
Solved
2011-08-24 5:20 pm
Bug: The error rates of my fingers are incorrect for the left little finger. I have been typing thousands of letters (according to the results) en even though the left little finger shows an Error Rate of 0%, a Frequency of 1 and 0 Errors.
Considering the fact that under 'Results\Characters' I have a 3% error rate on the a key with a frequency of 2444, the above seems incorrect.

Suggestion: could you include a layout of the complete standard keyboard(s) with where to place your fingers in the 'Go' menu or help? Now I have to start a lesson and see from there which fingers to use. Sometimes I just want to have the overview.

Praise: I'm currently improving my typing skills and this program works wonders for that. Since putting it on my PortableApps USB I can take my 10 minutes of practice a day anywhere.Thank you!
2011-08-24 5:20 pm
I can not reproduce this error. I've tested a training with US Qwerty layout and the results of my little left finger are correct.

Is it possible for you to send me your database "tipp10v2.db"? I then could check the finger chart with your results.

Your suggestion is good, I think I will place such a graphic into the manual for the next version.

Download problem
Solved
2011-07-01 12:41 am
Have tried MANY times to download Tipp 10; it has failed every single time, usually when it has downloaded about 25 percent. It has stopped as soon as 7 percent, and as late as 67 percent. Then everything it has already downloaded is lost. The DAP program (Download Accelerator Plus) is not even able to download it. I have the same problem on both Firefox and Internet Explorer. HOW DO YOU DOWNLOAD THIS PROGRAM? How is it possible that it has been downloaded over a million times?
2011-07-01 12:41 am
It's the first time I heard about that problem! Sometimes people have problems to download TIPP10 with Windows Vista or 7 and Internet Explorer because of security reasons. But your downloads seems to start, so I can not explain why it stops before finishing. I've tried it just before and had no problems downloading the file (it needed only 3 seconds to download the 4,2 MB windows version).
Please try the following alternative download link to download TIPP10:
http://www.tipp10.com/en/download/tipp10_win_v2-1-0.exe

Please let me know if this link works. If yes, please try the normal way again. Perhaps it was a server problem while the time you tried it before.
2011-07-01 12:41 am
Thanks for responding. Just tried it - it did the same thing again. Stopped at 25 percent and got a message that it could not be downloaded. I have Windows XP and am using dialup connection, but have never had this problem with other programs, even bigger ones. Could either of those have anything to do with it?
2011-07-01 12:41 am
Please try to download TIPP10 here:
http://tipp10.en.softonic.com/
This site has nothing to do with tipp10.com, so if it doesn't work here I think you have a problem with your computer.
2011-07-01 12:41 am
Thanks - it worked. The problem was probably at this end anyway. We had two major floods in May, and according to the phone company, apparently floodwaters getting into their local equipment caused the problem. They fixed it this morning, and everything works better. One of the floods was in connection to the storm that caused the tornado in Joplin, Missouri, not far from here.

french diacritics (éèêàîû) are deleted
Solved
2011-06-04 11:43 am
french diacritics (éèêàîû) do not appear in the lesson box (training) although they appear in the lesson text (edit lesson). (I think it is the same with Windows)

exemple of lesson text followed by the result:
Cette philosophie est composée de deux grands mouvements, l'existentialisme athée et l'existentialisme chrétien. Elle s'intéresse avant tout à la question du sens de l'existence.

Cette philosophie est compose de deux grands mouvements, l'existentialisme athe et l'existentialisme chrtien. Elle s'intresse avant tout la question du sens de l'existence.

Thank you for your post. To avoid that you have to type characters that are not supported by the current selected keyboard layout, we use a special filter to allow only specific characters. But, of course, you can change this setting for every layout:
Goto "General Setting" - "Language" and then click the button "Advanced". Here you can define all the characters you want to type. In your case you can add the french diacritics in the first list of characters. But not forget, these characters can not be displayed by the virtual keyboard while training.
2011-06-04 11:43 am
Thanks for the precise answer (I think that I would not have found it by
myself).

Thanks for the program also.

Error message when trying to install on Unbuntu 11.04  solved?

2011-04-03 12:47 am
When trying to install in the latest beta of 11.04 I get the following message.

The package is of bad quality
The installation of a package which violates the quality standards isn't allowed. This could cause serious problems on your computer. Please contact the person or organisation who provided this package file and include the details beneath.

Details
I have removed these as the form will not allow me to submit them due to invalid characters
2011-04-03 12:47 am
Thanks for your message. I tried to use the correct standards when packaging TIPP10.
But I used older Ubuntu versions to test the package (7.10 and 8.04.1).

Could you please send me the details by email? Perhaps that helps to solve the problem without installing Ubuntu 11. Thanks.

Error 404 and 304 Mac X.6.5 Network User  in progress
Solved
2011-03-29 4:25 pm
29.03.2011

At our small school we have an iMac with Snow Leopard Server X.6.5 and six iMacs for the students with Network User Accounts served by the server iMac.

We have installed TIPP10 on each of the iMacs. Using a local account on the iMacs the program works. In order for the students to be able to return to their individual saved level of progress they have achieved through practice, we would need them to be able to use the program in their individual network accounts.

This however does not work.
Once TIPP10 is launched in a network account, the program shows an alert with error 404 (update abort). Once passed by clicking the OK button, another error appears error 404 (No lessons exist).

Upon first launch a folder "TIPP10" is created in the users network home at Library/Application Support/ wherein a file "tipp10v2.db" is created.
The user has both read and write permissions to the folder and file therein.

The "tipp10v2.db" file is only 13.312 KB in size in comparison to the same file in a local account after first launch (8.1 MB).

In the TIPP10 preferences we have changed the location of the TIPP10 folder to a share on the server, this has had no effect.

We copied the "tipp10v2.db" 8.1 MB file from a working local iMac account and placed it in the proper location in the network user account, without improving the situation.

Could you please give us some advice how we could get this to work?

All help is greatly appreciated!

Kind regards
Gideon Zimmermann

I heard about that problem before and I tried to keep in contact to solve the problem, but I never heard again from the user.

So hope perhaps we both can find the problem, because I don't have a Mac Server here to test TIPP10 in a network.

When TIPP10 starts the first time it tries to create a new database (tipp10v2.db with 13KB) in the user home directory. After that it fills the database with current lesson and keyboard data (tipp10v2.db becomes 8MB). This way it can also update existing databases of previous versions.

The path to the database is stored in the user's preferences and you can change it in the General Settings.

First it seems that in your case TIPP10 can not understand the path to the database file. What I'm wondering is that the creation of the database file seems to work. Why can TIPP10 create a database but can not connect to it? I think here we have to find the problem.

If there is no path to the database given (first launch) I detect the path to the user's home with internal functions and that path I save to the preferences. After that I always take the path from the preferences, not from the internal functions. Can you tell me how a path to the database in your network looks like?

If we don't find a solution I could create a "special version" which outputs the two paths (internal function and that one from the preferences). Perhaps we can see some differences then.
2011-03-29 4:25 pm
Thanks for your response and offer to help.

a
Does TIPP10 fill the database with current lessons
and keyboard data from data stored inside the app
or from the internet?

b
Could it be that the program has difficulty finding
itself?

c
If so could we make TIPP10 import the lessons and keyboards
from a specific location?
e. g. Server’s Applications folder or a share on the server.

d
Why will TIPP10 not work if I place a “complete”
8 MB database from a local user into the network users
folder. Shouldn’t this database have the lessons and keyboards
in place and ready to use?

TIPP10 allows me to set the database path to another
location in the program preferences and also creates
the “base” database 13 KB.
It then obviously stalls at the second step of filling
the database with the lessons and keyboards.
I can confirm this as the preferences for keyboards
are empty and there are no lessons available.

The student iMacs have got the TIPP10 program
installed locally, just their user profile is stored in
their account that resides on the server. When they
launch a program they always launch it from the local
iMac’s Application folder.

The Application path on the local iMacs is:
OS X/Applications/TIPP10.app
(“OS X” is the client iMac Volume Label)

The path to the network homes on the server is:
Server OS/NetHomes/
(“Server OS” is the server Volume Label)
e. g. If a student is called “U30” his TIPP10 database
would be at:
Server OS/NetHomes/U30/Library/Application Support/TIPP10/tipp10v2.db
2011-03-29 4:25 pm
a)
The data is stored inside the app. The connection to the internet is only to detect new software versions and to give a notice if so.

b)
I use a special qt command to find "myself". It works good but I know of problems with OpenSuse Linux where the program could not find itself. It only works if you start the software by command line (shell) not by clicking on the binary file with your mouse. Perhaps you can try to start TIPP10 woth the Mac OS Terminal?

c)
At the moment the data is stored (compiled) inside the binary file and not in the package. So you can choose another source without recompiling the whole software.

d)
That's why I think the problem is the path to the users' home folder and not the path to the software itself. You are in right, normally (you can try it local) it's possible to give the user a ready prepared database for TIPP10.

So please try the following steps:
- Run TIPP10 by the Terminal
- Run TIPP10 by the Terminal and transfer a path to the user's database (see http://www.tipp10.com/doc/html/en/content/features.html#database)

I'm really wondering why the database is getting created while the connection does not work.
